Year 6

Welcome to Miss Brown and Mrs Sadler's class!

We are very excited about welcoming your child into Year 6 and we can't wait to start our new school year.

Here you can find out some information about how we work in Year 6. Year 6 marks the final year of your child's primary school journey and we look forward to helping your child learn and grow.

This term we will be focusing on the topic South America and in Science we will be exploring Evolution and Inheritance.

For more information about our curriculum in Year 6, please see the curriculum map below.

In Year 6 you will receive the following homework:

  • Reading - This should be done nightly and we will check reading diaries regularly to record progress towards our Reading Mileage Challenge, where your child can earn prizes for their efforts in Reading.
  • Times table practise - This should again be happening regularly at home to make sure you are confident with all the times table (up to x12)
  • Spellings - These will be set on a Friday and tested on the following Friday.
  • Additional homework may also be given out to consolidate the learning we have focused on during the week.

General Reminders

  • PE: We have PE on Monday and Thursday. Please make sure your child's NAMED kit is in school and if they have long hair we ask that it is tied back.
  • Pencil cases: Children will not need a pencil case for their work in Year 6. We provide a school pencil case for each pupil in class.
  • Water bottles: Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle for the classroom, containing water only.
